Vietnam Learning Route Testimonies, January 2015
Between the 27th and 29th January 2015, 25 participants, or “routeros”, found fulfillment in the Learning Route
organized by IFAD Vietnam and PROCASUR. Focusing on “Production and market linkages for sustainable
development”, the three-day journey took them to a model of innovation – Quang Ninh Farm (in My Phong
Village, Hai Thanh Commune, Ninh Hai district, Ninh Thuan province) – supported by the IFAD-funded project
Agriculture, Farmers and Rural Areas Support Project (TNSP) in Ninh Thuan province, Vietnam. This model
demonstrated a good example of strengthening the cooperation of production groups and market linkages to
sustainably improve livelihoods among ethnic minority and rural poor households. Practical experiences from
the farm were fundamental for exchanging views and stimulating debate among members of the route, before
settling upon details of their innovation plans – conceptualizing what they have learned and taking it home.
In total, four Innovation Plans were designed to make use of the local advantages and promote the common
interest group (CIG) on agricultural production.
From an apple farmer who is eager to start up his business with his team in the common interest group, a
businessman of a grape production cooperative wishing to introduce his products internationally in order to
create more jobs and generate income for women, to a district agriculture officer targetting better linkages for
value chains in Ninh Thuan. This publication gives you the opportunity to listen to the voices of the Routeros;
what they have learned, and how they have been empowered to positively change their own communities,
during this exciting journey.
